Prayers are a spiritual tool that works beyond human understanding. The essence of prayers is to bring about a relationship with Almighty God through the blood Jesus shed on the cross. Prayer is a talk with your Father in heaven, its a period when you block out everything that has to do with the physical world in order to connect to the spirit world. Hence the closing of your eyes during the session. During prayers, your mind and your heart must be in one accord – focused! It’s a period when faith in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit combine to scatter evil manipulation of the sons of God. Definitely not a Hummer Jeep! What we should be asking ourselves as Christians and Church leaders is this heart searching question. The answer we give will reveal to us the truth about our faith in Christ Jesus. In the days of Jesus Christ, there were different modes of transportation namely; chariots, horses, donkey, boats and walking. The fastest mode was the Chariot, because of the number of horses required to pull it. The second fastest was the horse mounted by its rider, the donkey was probably the slowest of the animal based transport modes. The speed of the boat was often determined by the wind current blowing on the sea. As we know, walking as a mode of transportation has been with us from time immemorial. Jesus Christ before the ascension into heaven, told his disciples that it was to their advantage that he returned to Heaven, for it was only then the Father can send down the Counsellor to them. One may be tempted to ask what the role of the Counsellor is to us as Christians. (John 16:7)
What do we understand as being a Counsellor? It is a person who by privilege of knowledge, education or experience is in a unique position to advice, guide and help you achieve the desired results in life. In secondary schools, they are known as Career Counsellors. Usually, their jobs are to advise students in the junior secondary what subjects to select to follow a certain career in life. This is often based on the academic performance of the individual concerned; the counsellor uses the subjects’ grade to advice on career choice. Ultimately, the aim is for you to pass your ‘O’ level exams based on the subject you often excel. In the Church, the Counsellor is the Pastor or his assistant. He is there for your spiritual guidance, whenever you experience abnormal situations you can not ordinarily explain.
